Описание:

Wide-ranging overview of the fantastic in literature (covering fantasy, horror, the weird tale, etc.). It's basically a long-form essay broken down into different approaches, periods and countries — the extra space is filled with some vintage illustrations and paintings from all time periods.

As in Rottensteiner’s previous book, many of illustrations are from the pulps, comics, movies, paperbacks, and cover both fantasy and horror. A number of illustrations might be new to most people. The author does provide a long bibliography; many of the titles are of European titles.

202 illustrations, 40 in color.

Cover art: Out of the Deep, cover for a Walter de la Mer collection by Hans Ulrich and Ule Osterwalder for the 'Bibliothek des Hauses Usher' issue, edited by Kalju Kirde.
