Scholarly tome that deconstructs, analyses and criticizes all of Robert A. Heinlein's science fiction short stories, novelettes and novels. All of his novels and many of his short stories are discussed in some detail and in chronological order. This book can be added to Gifford's work and to Bill Patterson's biography to get a good picture of the author.

The senior author, Thomas D. Clareson, died in 1993, having written three chapters of this study. Joe Sanders continued the work, writing the remainder of the text and editing the original chapters.
