Scribner — одно из старейших американских издательств. Основанно в 1846 году Чарльзом Скрибнером I и Исааком Бэйкером под первоначальным названием «Baker & Scribner» и занималась изданием религиозной литературы; после смерти Бэйкера Скрибнер купил его долю в компании и переименовал издательство в «Charles Scribner Company». После смерти Скрибнера I в 1871 году пост президента компании занимает его сын Джон Блэр Скрибнер. Позже к управлению компанией присоединяются другие сыновья Скрибнера: Чарльз Скрибнер II в 1875 году и Артур Хоули Скрибнер в 1884 году. Позднее, когда другие партнёры по венчурному капиталу продали свои доли братьям, компания была переименована в «Charles Scribner's Sons».

В 1978 году компания объединяется с издательством Atheneum и переименовывается в «The Scribner Book Companies», а в 1984 году её поглощает издательство Macmillan, которое затем в 1994 году полностью входит в состав издательского дома Simon & Schuster. С 2012 года Scribner объединён с другим импринтом Touchstone Books в подразделение, называющееся «Scribner Publishing Group».

Cherryh, Harry Harrison, Pat Murphy, Sherri S. Tepper, and Gene Wolfe. Significantly revised articles include those on Arthur C. Clarke, Robert A. Heinlein, Frank Herbert, Ursula K. Le Guin, H.P.
